Install a battery storage system with the support of non-repayable grants
A call for grants has been published for projects to establish battery systems for storing electricity generated from solar power plants. Micro, small, medium and large enterprises that already produce electricity from solar power plants or have a project to build a power plant with an installed capacity of more than 500 kW can apply to the public call.
The activities of construction and commissioning of battery storage tanks with a minimum capacity of 1 MWh are co-financed, whereby the capacity must not exceed the foreseeable annual electricity production from the plant, i.e., the applicant's solar power plant. Additionally, the call requires the battery system to absorb at least 75% of the energy from the directly connected power plant.
The battery energy storage must be located within the scope of the production plant, on the construction plot on which the connection plant is located, or in the immediate vicinity of the connection plant. The call requires that the battery system utilizes at least 75% of the energy from its own power plant, ensuring that the batteries primarily serve to optimize their own production and increase the financial justification of the project.
If you already have a solar power plant or are planning to build one, now is the right time to invest in energy independence and long-term savings, and on this path, ENNA Next is a reliable partner for entrepreneurs in the design and installation of solar power plants and battery systems.
Amount of the incentive
A total of EUR 50,000,000 has been secured for the award of grants through this call. The lowest amount of grants that can be awarded to an individual project is EUR 60,000, while the maximum amount that can be awarded per project is EUR 1,500,000, and the aid intensity is a maximum of 30% of eligible costs.
Applicants at the level of affiliated companies can be awarded a maximum of EUR 2,500,000 in aid. It is important to emphasize that one applicant can conclude multiple grant agreements, but each agreement must relate to a different project.
The applicant must secure the remaining amount of financing from its own funds or through financing in another way, which does not include funds from any public source or the EU.
Why install batteries?
Battery systems ensure more efficient and flexible use of electricity produced from photovoltaic power plants (solar plants), which are an intermittent source. The battery tank is charged with electricity from the solar power plant during periods of excess production (when there is sunlight), and supplies consumers with electricity during periods when the power plant does not produce electricity, or does not produce enough. In addition, batteries also allow the excess energy produced to be sold on more favorable terms, when the price of electricity is higher.
In addition to enabling better use of the energy produced, increasing the capacity of battery systems will ensure stabilization, relief and harmonization of the electricity system to which more and more intermittent renewable energy sources are connected.
Battery systems bring their owners reduced energy costs, greater energy independence and flexibility, while by participating in the stabilization of the electricity system, battery system users can also secure an additional source of income.
Project implementation deadline
The earliest start of project implementation is the date of submission of the project application, and the latest completion is 30 June 2026. The completion of the activity marks the delivery of confirmation (e.g. a report from the supervising engineer) that the installation is ready for commissioning or trial operation.
The call is implemented as an open procedure in the modality of a permanent call with the deadline for submission of project proposals by 31 January 2026. Submission of the project proposal is allowed no earlier than 15 October this year.
Applications are submitted exclusively electronically via the eNPOO system. The maximum duration of the funding allocation procedure is 90 days.
