The solar revolution is upon us

New rules and batteries change everything in 2026.

Croatia is set to face new rules for the use of solar power plants for households from January 1, 2026 – the current system of so-called netting, in which households could “store” excess energy produced in the grid and use it later without additional costs, will be abolished. Instead, excess energy will be able to be sold to the grid at feed-in tariffs, while energy taken from the grid will be paid for at full price, including the grid fee.

At first glance, this means certain changes, but in fact it is a step towards a more modern and efficient way of using solar energy – the one that has been the standard in Western Europe for years and which will bring Croatia closer to European practices, where the combination of solar power plants and battery systems is already the usual standard. This is exactly the next step in the energy transition: maximum use of own production and greater energy independence.

The key change is that battery systems will become an increasingly important part of every solar power plant. They allow for the storage of excess energy produced during the day and its use in the evening or at times when consumption increases.
