Zagreb, April 10, 2026 – The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has published details of a public call for co-financing the installation of solar power plants and battery systems for households. EUR 20 million has been secured for the installation of photovoltaic power plants and EUR 8 million for battery systems. It emphasized that battery systems for energy storage are financed exclusively in addition to photovoltaic power plants.
Citizens can receive up to 50 percent co-financing of eligible costs, while households at risk of energy poverty can receive up to 70 percent, depending on the total household income. Specifically, subsidies for the installation of photovoltaic power plants can range from 600 to 840 euros per kW, or for battery systems from 350 to 490 €/kW.
The announcement of the call comes at a time of energy crisis caused by the war in the Middle East, which has once again shown how important energy self-sufficiency and the ability to produce and consume energy from one's own sources are. The energy resilience of households begins with the installation of solar power plants. This has been recognized by numerous households in Croatia, where in 2025 there were a total of more than 31,000 home power plants, which is a growth of 663 percent compared to 2022. The next big step is battery systems, which are ideal in combination with solar power plants because they allow for the storage and consumption of energy from solar in the evening and at night, or the management of one's own produced energy.
Citizens who are owners or co-owners of family houses and reside in them will be able to apply for the Fund's call, provided that the building is legal and meets the prescribed technical conditions. According to the presented proposal, the period of eligibility of costs begins on January 1, 2026, and ends on June 30, 2028. The Fund has put the proposal for the call for co-financing for public consultation, which will last until May 7, 2026. After considering the comments of the interested public, the publication of the Public Call itself is expected, and therefore all interested parties are advised to, if they still have time, start preparing the documentation and planning the project in order to be ready for the announcement.
