PV + BESS Medgidia Project
Date publishedOctober 23, 2026Zagreb, 23 October 2026 - ENNA Solar, a member of ENNA Group, has signed an agreement to acquire a solar power project with a battery energy storage system in Romania. The Medgidia project comprises a solar power plant with a planned installed capacity of 166 MWp and a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 612 MWh. Subject to obtaining the required regulatory approvals, the project will further expand ENNA Group’s renewable energy project portfolio in the Romanian market.
ENNA Solar d.o.o. has signed a share purchase agreement setting out the terms for the acquisition of a 100% equity stake in the Romanian special-purpose company CIC GREEN ENERGY MEDGIDIA S.R.L., which holds the rights to develop the solar power plant and its associated battery energy storage system (BESS).
The project is located in the Medgidia area, in Romania’s Constanța County, and covers approximately 204 hectares of land. In addition to generating electricity from solar energy, the project includes the construction of a battery energy storage system, which will enable more flexible management and storage of the electricity generated while also contributing to the stability of the power system.
– Medgidia represents a significant step forward in the continued development of ENNA Group’s energy portfolio and the strengthening of our presence in the sizeable Romanian market. It also reaffirms our ambition to expand significantly into Central and Eastern European markets, where we see further investment opportunities. I would also like to take this opportunity to emphasise that we are open to cooperation on renewable energy projects that are at an advanced stage of development or ready for construction. ENNA wants to be part of Europe’s green transition, and our vision is of an energy system increasingly powered by clean energy sources. We want to invest in projects that address today’s needs while contributing to a more sustainable energy future, said Boštjan Napast, President of the Management Board of ENNA Group.
Construction of the Medgidia project is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The solar power plant is expected to enter commercial operation and begin supplying electricity to the grid in the first quarter of 2028. Expected annual electricity generation amounts to 265,932 MWh.
Completion of the transaction and the transfer of the equity stake to ENNA Solar are subject to approval by the competent Romanian authority responsible for screening foreign direct investment (FDI), as well as approval from the relevant competition authorities in the applicable jurisdictions.
The Medgidia acquisition builds on ENNA Group’s existing investments in Romania. ENNA Solar has already acquired the Mihăilești solar power project, with an installed capacity of 87.52 MWp, which is now at an advanced stage of construction. The project also includes a 140 MWh battery energy storage system, with commercial operation expected to begin in April 2027.
